The City of New Orleans was a part of the 2018-2019 cohort of the Equitable Economic Development (EED) Fellowship. Creating strategies that level the playing field for minority and women owned businesses as well as local workers is a key focus of New Orleans’ participation in the Equitable Economic Development Fellowship. A key component to achieving these goals is incentivizing and leveraging investments in both historically underserved neighborhoods and those that have seen the negative consequences of displacement in neighborhoods experiencing significant investment post-Katrina. The City will perform this work through the lens of an equity plan and through the creation of performance metrics to measure progress that hold us accountable. The New Orleans Business Alliance and the Data Center will partner with City departments and agencies including the Offices of Community and Economic Development, Human Rights and Equity and Performance and Accountability to develop, implement, and measure the efficacy of policies that promote and achieve equitable outcomes.
